The Rundown: In the aftermath of the attack, the former friends try to survive the best they can.

In the aftermath of the attack on the city, Spencer and Maggie are stuck underground in the dark. With Maggie injured, Spencer is torn between staying with her and going to look for help and a way out. At the same time, Luke is in the middle of the rubble as a critically injured Stefan steps out of the dust and falls to his feet with injuries that will force Luke to make a dark decision.

Outside of the city, Nikki finally has her baby with David but things are still dark and uncertain as they find a cabin and plenty of supplies from a former neighbor, but Nikki has gone silent since the event and the couple discovers that there are people coming for them when they make the mistake of looking out the window.

The Story: Ennis delivers a dark, engaging and compelling story in this issue. I love seeing the story from the different perspectives of this group of friends and how each of them is dealing with the destruction, death and despair all around them. Nikki and David’s story has some palpable tension throughout and I loved seeing that their relative safety might not be enough as the story brings on a suspenseful cliffhanger ending.

The Art: Cloonan delivers stunning visuals throughout the issue. I love the dark, beautifully detailed imagery and how it evokes and enhances the emotion of every scene.
